The timeline

The timeline runs along the bottom and works at two levels: the whole video, and one scene up close.
Zoomed out: the whole video
- Scenes: each block is a scene, in playing order. Drag to reorder, drag an edge to trim, and they snap to each other.
- Audio: sound laid under the scenes.
Together they are the shape of the video, start to finish.
Zoomed in: one scene
Click a scene to open it. The timeline fills with that scene's layers, one row each, showing how every layer moves. Below them sit two more tracks:
- Camera: the move across the scene.
- Light: shown when the scene uses a device frame.
Click the dimmed area on either side to step back out.
The essentials
- Play / pause: Space.
- Scrub: drag across the ruler. The playhead snaps to scene edges.
- Cut: Scissors C and click a clip, or ⌘ B to split the selection at the playhead.
- Trim: Q and W pull the selection's in and out point to the playhead.
