The timeline

The Raylight timeline showing a scene's animated layer tracks and a camera track.

The timeline runs along the bottom. It works at two levels: the whole video, and one scene up close.

Scenes and audio

Zoomed out, you see two tracks:

  • Scenes: each block is a scene, in playing order. Drag to reorder, drag an edge to trim, and they snap to each other.
  • Audio: sound laid under the scenes.

Together they are the shape of the video, start to finish.

Open a scene

Click a scene to open it. The timeline fills with that scene's layers, one row each, showing how every layer moves. Below the layers sit two more tracks:

  • Camera: the move across the scene.
  • Light: shown when the scene uses a device frame.

Click the dimmed area on either side to step back out.

The playhead

The vertical line is the current frame. Drag across the ruler to scrub, and it snaps to scene edges. Space plays and pauses.

Cut a clip

Take the Scissors (C) and click a clip to split it where you click, or press Cmd B to split the selection at the playhead.

Zoom time

  • Cmd-scroll, or the slider next to Play, zooms in and out of time.
  • Shift-scroll moves along the timeline.
  • Shift Z fits the whole thing to view.
