Layers

The Raylight layers panel listing a scene and its layers.

The left sidebar is your layer list. It has two tabs: File, the tree of everything in the project, and Assets, the media you have uploaded.

The File tree

  • Every scene, group, and layer is a row, indented to show what sits inside what.
  • The order is depth. The top row is in front, the bottom row is behind. Drag a row to restack it, or to drop it into or out of a group.
  • Click a row to select it on the canvas and load it in the right sidebar.
  • Double-click a name to rename. Hover a row and click the eye to hide the layer.

Select one, or many

  • Click picks one layer.
  • Cmd-click adds or removes a layer.
  • Shift-click takes the whole range up to it.

A multi-selection moves and edits as a unit. Press Cmd G to group it, Cmd Shift G to ungroup, so it stays together and can animate as one.

Find a layer

Open search in the File tab and type. The list narrows to matching names, and your current selection always scrolls into view.

The Assets tab

Every image and video you bring in is kept here. Drag one onto the canvas to reuse it without uploading again.

Lined up with the timeline

When the timeline is open, the panel under the tree mirrors the open scene's layers, each row level with its track on the right. Names on the left, timing on the right, the same layers.
