Raylight vs Rive

Rive and Raylight both animate, but they ship to different destinations. Rive's output is a living animation: state machines and vector graphics that run in your app, respond to input, and stay interactive at runtime. It is a genuinely excellent tool for that.

Raylight's output is a film: a composed, directed video of your product that exports as MP4 or GIF and plays everywhere video plays. If the destination is a launch post, a landing page hero, or an ad, you want a video tool; if the destination is inside your running app, you want Rive.

When Rive is the right call

Choose Rive when the animation lives inside software: interactive icons, onboarding characters, game UI, loading states. Runtime interactivity is Rive's entire architecture and no video tool substitutes for it.

If developers will integrate the animation into an app, Rive's runtimes are the point.

When Raylight is the right call

Choose Raylight when the destination is a feed, a page, or a deck: content you export and publish rather than integrate. The cinematic vocabulary, real camera moves, depth of field, lighting, is what makes product videos look produced, and it is Raylight's core.

The two are complementary in practice: Rive for the animation in your product, Raylight for the video about your product.

Frequently asked questions

Can Raylight make interactive animations?
No. Raylight exports video files. For animations that respond to user input inside an app, Rive is the right category of tool.
Can Rive make product launch videos?
You can animate in Rive and capture it, but it is built for runtime animation, not cinematic composition. Cameras, depth of field, and lighting for film-like output are Raylight's territory.
Do teams use both?
Reasonably, yes: Rive animations inside the product, Raylight videos to market it. They answer different briefs.
